Transgender people need to understand this, but how will they understand it? They can’t be allowed to use women’s restrooms simply because they feel like women, because ultimately, those in power have to understand women’s feelings too. Transgender people need to empathize. They need to put themselves in the shoes of a real woman. No matter how progressive a woman is, no matter how much respect she has for trans rights, there are still psychological impulses and desires.
Perhaps this is difficult to explain, but it can be clearly explained when one is a woman. If almost all women oppose trans people using women’s restrooms, there must be a reason. This isn’t about conservatism or a lack of respect for trans people. Trans people may accept themselves as women, but it’s very difficult for women to accept this.
