Question: When will this service charge terror end, and who will stop it?

400 people applied to the BBC and lodged a significant complaint. In recent years, especially in London, there’s been another issue, fueled by rising rents, that’s leaving people desperate. The problem exists across all sectors, but the most critical situation is with apartments owned by pensioners. Pensioners who contacted the BBC complained that service charges have risen to as much as £20,000.

This is an unbelievable and outrageous figure. It’s heartless to demand £20,000 in service charges from people who have nothing but their pension. How can a pensioner receiving £1,000 a month afford £20,000?

Service charges for ordinary citizens have reached unbelievable figures.

Some service charges range from £1,800 to £7,000. Previously, landlords also demanded similar amounts from tenants as part of land taxes, but the government limited it to £250.

This service charge terror must end immediately. There needs to be a government official who listens to the voices of citizens burdened by rising food prices and rents… We wonder who will listen.
