In the local elections, the two losers engaged in a heated debate, with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch emerging victorious. Let’s just say she’s one of the best at speaking and practicing politics. Her only misfortune is inheriting a bad past.
The 14th year of Conservative rule is preventing her qualities from being fully appreciated. She’s successful, but the bad memories of the past are working against her. She hasn’t yet received the public support she expected, but the probability is high.
Anyway, in her parliamentary speech, she criticized the Labour Party and its leader Starmer, stating that investments in Russian oil had been removed and that the government was buying Russian oil. That’s possible, even necessary, we’ll say, excuse me… The US was behind all the sanctions imposed on Russia because of Ukraine.
The US’s concern wasn’t Ukraine itself, but rather suppressing Russia’s growing influence in the region and ensuring that Russia, in alliance with China, would challenge the US as a new power. Ukraine was merely the pretext for this. The European Union and the UK followed suit, implementing all the investments the US wanted in China. But the biggest damage from this was ultimately suffered by the US itself. Because: The USA has enough oil and agricultural resources to sustain itself. A significant portion of these resources came from Mexico and Canada. Therefore, it would not suffer any harm from sanctions on Russian oil; in fact, European countries, forced to hunt for oil, would have to buy it from the USA.
Trump had already stated this openly after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. He said, “Our oil is enough for us. European countries should worry about it. The closure of Hormuz is not our problem.” Moreover, the oil, natural gas, and food sanctions imposed due to the Ukraine war hit European countries hard. The economic crisis in Europe and the rise of the far right alongside it are caused by these sanctions. The USA is comfortable; the Ukraine war has made European countries dependent on it and prevented Russia from becoming a joint power with China and Iran. Prime Minister Starmer saw this reality. By partially lifting the sanctions, he is actually following the right approach.
The US doesn’t mean European countries and people should have to struggle with poverty just because it wants to prevent Russia from becoming a rival. Moreover, these sanctions have had no effect on Russia whatsoever.
