Why did Prime Minister Starmer risk his political career for Lord Mandelson?

Prime Minister Starmer’s escapades regarding Lord Mandelson continue. Despite intelligence reports indicating that his appointment as Ambassador to the UBA was unsuitable following a security investigation, Starmer ignored these warnings and proceeded with the appointment, once again raising the possibility of his resignation. However, Starmer, clinging to his position more than his dreams, is resisting resignation. It’s highly likely he won’t. His protective and supportive attitude towards Lord Mandelson has cost the Foreign Office bureaucrats their jobs.

The head of the Foreign Office, dismissed for granting Peter Mandelson security clearance despite security concerns, is expected to face MPs’ questions on Tuesday. Five Foreign Office officials will appear before MPs, but this is not expected to have much impact. MPs will simply listen, ask questions, and send the officials home. Prime Minister Starmer, however, will remain in office.

The real question is: why did Starmer appoint Lord Mandelson as Ambassador to the U.S. despite the “unsuitable” report?

We don’t know the possibilities, but let’s list the ones that first come to mind.

1- Lord Mandelson is one of Starmer’s best friends. Perhaps a childhood friend or from university.

2- He is distantly related to Lord Mandelson. He could be a relative of a close relative of his wife.

3- Epstein may have intervened and said, “Starmer, Lord Mandelson is a good friend of mine. I ask you to make him the US ambassador.”

4- Lord Mandelson made a payment to Starmer without receiving anything in return.
