Nigel Farage, who seeks power by promising to rid the state of immigrants, faced questions regarding a £5 million gift he received. Angered by inquiries asking, “Why was this money given to you?”, this “patriotic” politician responded arrogantly, telling the questioners, “It’s none of your business; you can’t ask that.”
It appears that Farage consistently receives funds from sources of unknown origin abroad, and he attempts to normalize this by dismissing it as “none of your business.”
In this country, everything a politician does is everyone’s business. Everyone has the right—and the duty—to ask this question and others: “Why do people keep sending you money? What do they get in return? Why are millions of pounds given specifically to you rather than to other politicians?” If you aspire to govern the country, you must be accountable for everything. You are accountable to the public for every action you take. How are we to know that by accepting foreign funds, you aren’t selling out the country? How do we know you aren’t taking money from China or acting as Putin’s man? How do we know you aren’t a Trojan horse planted in the country? How do we know you aren’t being specifically funded and supported to destroy this nation and turn its people against one another?
A politician aspiring to lead the country must be accountable to everyone for everything.
Why can’t Nigel answer these questions? Why does he get angry when faced with them? Why does he feel compelled to lecture people?
Mr. Farage, you must be accountable to the public on every issue. If you aspire to govern this country, you are obliged to account for the millions you receive. You are obliged to explain why you are receiving money from sources of unknown origin and what is being exchanged for those funds. Otherwise, the state will not—and indeed should not—grant you the mandate to govern this country.
No politician is permitted—nor should they be permitted—to sell out their country for the sake of specific interests.
You are accountable to the people for every single penny you spend.Parliament and other state institutions must also ask Farage where these funds came from and why. We cannot allow anyone who receives foreign aid to govern this country and plunge it into deep poverty.
