Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch rightly stated, “Starmer must accept responsibility for his grave mistake in the Mandelson scandal.” Starmer has indeed admitted his mistake, saying he ignored warnings from the secret service and made the appointment anyway. Since he admitted his mistake, he knows he should take the necessary action, but he’s trying to save himself by sacrificing those close to him.
Starmer needs to resign immediately to relieve both his own party and the country. It’s unacceptable for someone capable of such blatant mistakes, someone who doesn’t even trust his own intelligence agency, to remain as Prime Minister. He still hasn’t offered a single explanation for the extent of his relationship with Mandelson. He’s only trying to save himself by saying, “He lied to us,” but to no avail…
Furthermore, there’s a second issue he needs to explain: Why didn’t heed the intelligence agency’s opinion that “Lord Mandelson should not be appointed”? ‘Didn’t he trust the secret service? If not, why not? This incident, which could be considered a denial of the very existence of an established organization, is in itself the reason for his resignation.
