There’s no need to have an inferiority complex towards the US and Trump

Today, the Telegraph newspaper, in a commentary, stated that the UK, by opposing the USA on Greenland and siding with Denmark, is jeopardizing its special relationship with the USA and is on the verge of losing it.

Gaiba, this country suffers from an inferiority complex not only among politicians but also journalists. They constantly believe they must maintain warm relations with the US and act passively, always serving US interests. We’ve done this for years, and yet Trump hasn’t backed down on imposing a 25% tariff. If Trump and the USA aren’t afraid of losing their old allies, why should we be? Instead of pursuing a firm and decisive policy, constantly following the US’s lead makes the UK a valuable, convenient country.

We must also know when to say no to the US. Otherwise, neither Trump nor future US presidents will take this country seriously.

If relations deteriorate, so be it, but the important thing is to maintain the country’s reputation. The US is our ally, but it must not be forgotten that we are also an ally of the US. Two allies are equally bound to each other; neither one more nor the other less. Allies respect each other’s interests. They don’t constantly threaten each other. If a country constantly threatens its ally, it’s not really an ally.

Trump has to respect this country. If he starts belittling the country by constantly insulting it, despising mayors, and saying there’s no leader, we can’t just stand by and watch.

It must not be forgotten that the UK made a significant contribution to the founding of the US. So there’s no need for an inferiority complex.
