An interesting clause in the US Constitution: Customs duty for only 150 days.
Trump has resumed research into a new 10% global tariff after the Supreme Court’s reversal.
Meanwhile, the unused Section 122 authorization allows the US president to impose tariffs of up to 15% on any country for a maximum of 150 days to address “major and serious” balance of payments problems. This means that if Trump wants to impose tariffs on a country, he can only do so for 150 days before reverting.
Trump called the Supreme Court justices fools, but why did they rule against Trump’s ridiculous tariffs? Because the court sees the reaction of Americans. The vast majority of the public has begun to suffer greatly from the foolishly implemented tariffs. While Trump is desperately trying to bring more money into the USA, he doesn’t see that more money is being taken from the pockets of the people. It’s actually a feeling of defeat. The Supreme Court’s reversal decision has eroded Trump’s ego. Trump feels defeated and believes his prestige has been damaged. The only reason he called the court members fools is actually this: ‘A feeling of defeat.’
Thus, Trump’s idea of imposing 100% tariffs whenever he feels like it has also become obsolete. Trump should know this: the USA is not his private company. He cannot run the USA like his own private company, and there are courts in the USA.
Thank goodness they exist… Otherwise, crazy leaders would have ruined the world. Trump is one of them… He came promising peace, but he’s amusing himself by beating the drums of war.
