According to a newly drafted law, hate crimes targeting people because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability will be classified as aggravated offenses. An amendment to the Crimes and Policing Act means that if a victim is targeted because of these characteristics, the crime will be considered aggravated and will carry a higher penalty.

Galop, an anti-violence against LGBT+ individuals, said the new law is a historic step.
The government is also preparing for something else: a bill that would make it easier for students to change their gender at will.
However, this law seems somewhat problematic. Shouldn’t students reach a certain level of maturity before changing their gender? It’s already difficult for children to think clearly. Environmental factors are more prominent, and a transgender child cannot be expected to behave like a mature individual.
