According to information obtained by Sky News, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar will call for Keir Starmer’s resignation. A statement from Number 10 indicated that Starmer would not resign.
Starmer should have resigned earlier, but he has always stayed in power by sacrificing those around him. Now that he has no one left willing to sacrifice themselves for him, he has no choice but to resign. His insistence will only worsen the situation. If politicians who should resign don’t do so in time, their meager prestige will be lost along with them when they finally do.
Starmer must abandon his stubbornness. He can no longer remain in office. If he persists, he will remain a leader without influence, credibility, or legitimacy in the eyes of the public. Even worse, scandals will continue to plague his party while he remains in power, just as his influence over the party was evident in the Manodelson case. Ignoring the calls of important state institutions and appointing his friends to key government positions is the beginning of the end, but he lacks the political competence to understand this.
The Scottish leader has also called for his resignation, marking a historic period for Labour. If Labour Party members don’t change their leader, if they don’t elect a new one, they will have accepted becoming an opposition party while still in power.
