Prime Minister Starmer stated today that, despite pressure to resign, he will “never leave office.” Starmer is wrong. No one in his position would resign easily. Before him, Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak didn’t resign willingly; they were forced to.
Starmer can resist. He has no other choice. But the longer he resists, the shorter his time in office becomes. A politician who doesn’t leave in time leaves behind only a huge mess when they are forced to, and their political career is shorter.
One should think about the prime ministers who resigned before him, but right now he’s gone beyond that thinking stage and is insisting. He thinks that if he insists, he will stay in office longer.
It’s his life; he can think as much as he wants.
