Can blocking access to porn sites protect children from these sites?

A porn site was fined £1 million for age verification and never responded to Ofcom. One of the government’s recent decisions was aimed at preventing children from accessing porn sites. Porn sites have begun testing encryption systems and requiring age verification. Penalties for sites that don’t comply with these new rules were on the agenda, and Ofcom fined the site, which didn’t even respond, £1 million.

But the problem is: Can age restrictions prevent children from accessing these sites? Can children as young as 18 be prevented from accessing these sites?

First, let’s explain how these new methods are implemented. The site sends the user an age warning and requires proof. Those aged 18 and over are allowed to access the site, but first, a video recognition system is activated. To verify the ID you receive, you must turn on your camera and show your face. If the video footage proves the same person as the person on the ID, access to the site is permitted.

So, can children be prevented from accessing these sites? According to the system mentioned above, it’s nearly impossible, but children today can still find a way to access the site. For example, multiple people can access the same site using the same email address.

But if you ask us, the bureaucrats and politicians who constantly lie to children before they can access porn sites and who push the country to the brink of poverty are doing far more harm than these sites. It would be much more appropriate to block access to these politicians.
