University fees will be increased in line with inflation. So what happens next?

The Labour government announced that university tuition fees will increase annually in line with inflation starting in 2026. Education Minister Bridget Phillipson confirmed the increase for the next two years and promised to introduce legislation that would automatically apply every year thereafter.

Well done. After this new government decision, families will now find it even harder to send their children to university. While rising fees in recent years have already caused hardship for many families, a significant number have tried to ensure their children learn a trade. This situation continues.

Could education be rising in line with inflation? This country’s most important asset was its universities. There were students, especially from abroad, who were spending an incredible amount of money. Indeed, there has been a decline of nearly 20 percent in the number of students in recent years. The economy is terrible, and tuition fees are high. Some students must work and earn a living, but those from abroad don’t have this opportunity; they don’t have the right to work. Rising prices will only hurt universities and their quality.
