Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been one of the world’s richest people for several years, but his lifestyle still feels like a pauper.
Musk insists he lives a largely modest lifestyle. In 2021, he said he lived in a $50,000 (£38,000) house in Texas.
Perhaps. For some, life is all about luxury homes and cars. Hollywood stars, in particular, are constantly showing off their wealth, their private jets, and the grandeur of their homes whenever they appear on television.
They try to prove that the more and larger their homes and cars are, the more important they are. But large homes, just like department stores, can be problematic. You go in to buy something, but the store is so massive that you spend 15-20 minutes searching for the exact shelf where you’ll find what you want. Sometimes, if you can’t find it, you have to ask a clerk. You’ll wander from corner to corner in minutes, leaving you exhausted and paying for your purchase.
A similar situation exists in large mansions. Having dozens of rooms, dozens of lighting, heating, furniture, caretakers, and servants only exhausts people and increases their expenses. Big houses don’t bring great happiness, but they bring immense stress. Elon Musk is at least smarter than other billionaires. He’s less exhausted, able to avoid the unnecessary costs and problems of a large house and focus on the success of his business.
Perhaps his wealth stems from living in a small house and still dreaming. Because large and sumptuous lives kill dreams.
