Trump’s lawyer announced today that they will sue the BBC for $1 billion in damages if it doesn’t retract its fake news report. We believe Trump should file a lawsuit for damages and hold those responsible accountable for the fake news report.
But on one condition… If the BBC loses its billion-dollar lawsuit, and it’s highly likely to, this money must be paid from the salaries of BBC employees. If this money is paid from public taxes, the public will be punished, not BBC management or journalists.
Trump should ensure that a clause is added to his lawsuit stating that “BBC employees must pay the penalty.” For example, those who produced, edited, and then broadcast the news could have their salaries garnished for 15 years. Their employees, over 50,000 of whom are now on the air, could face a pay cut.
This would be a significant penalty against fake news. And no journalist would dare do it again.
