Some GPs in the country have implemented a strange practice. Some haven’t implemented it yet, but in London, in particular, the majority of GPs have switched to an online consultant system, effectively cutting off the need for patients to visit their GPs.
Let’s say you have a stomach ache and urgently need medication. Going to your GP doesn’t help; they tell you, “Apply online. Explain your question and get an answer through the e-Consultant system. If you need an urgent appointment, the doctor will call you between these hours tomorrow.”
GPs chose this method to reduce their workload, but they don’t know how someone in pain can wait until tomorrow. The doors are closed to those who need an urgent prescription or urgently need to see a doctor on call. If you can explain yourself and demonstrate your pain, they can put you in touch with the doctor on call. Non-urgent patients can go to work, but what do people do in an emergency? The solution is: If you don’t go to a GP, go to a hospital emergency room.
