The BBC’s Panorama program continues to be a vital broadcaster. Recently, BBC Panorama sent an undercover reporter to the Metropolitan Police, proving that the extent of racism within the police force is far greater than previously thought. The BBC, which has been broadcasting continuously for two days, continues its broadcasts in a manner that has piqued the interest of the Home Office Secretary.
The debate about racism in the police will never end, but we will highlight another point. There’s a belief, especially among immigrants, that the police don’t care about rising crime rates in areas with large immigrant populations like Harringay, Hackney, Croydon, Catford, and Enfield because their perception is: ‘Let immigrants kill each other.’
Any immigrant living in London you speak to will tell you that this is the main reason the police fail to respond promptly to crime and criminals. For example, phone theft on high streets, which is now becoming a topic of discussion in the international media. While you’re talking on the phone, a cyclist might come and snatch your phone. And yet, these police remain silent in the face of these increasing cases of pickpocketing. The increasing thefts in shops, in particular, are not the focus of the police. The basic view is, “Let the immigrants kill, injure, or rob each other.” This may not be a basic police understanding, but let’s remember that immigrants have begun to think this way.
