Trump constantly criticizes NATO and says he wants to leave the alliance. He claims the USA is the biggest contributor to it. While that’s true, NATO forces all countries to agree to its foolish policies. Even if they disagree with some policies, they feel obligated because of NATO.
Trump can leave NATO if he wants. NATO won’t collapse just because the US leaves. But the US’s global influence will be reduced to zero. It will no longer receive strategic and political support from Europe.
The USA cannot leave NATO; it doesn’t dare. Doing so would mean leaving the world vulnerable to the influence of China and Russia. Trump, afraid of his own downfall, cannot leave his country defenseless against China. They might be able to take Venezuelan President Maduro, but they can’t take Xi Jinping from Beijing with 3-5 CIA agents.
Someone needs to remind Trump that the US needs Europe more than Europe needs the USA. Trump’s thuggery may continue, but every thug has a destination.
After the USA, Turkey is the country that provides the greatest military power to NATO. Perhaps this will enable Türkiye to be accepted into the European Union as well.
