It seems that the pain of others can become the joy of others. Or, after the immense suffering of others, some people collect memories from that suffering and sell them at auction.

Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister announced that a planned auction in Germany to sell artifacts belonging to prisoners in Nazi concentration camps was canceled due to public outcry. People lost their lives in concentration camps, their dignity was destroyed. They were tortured, they were gassed, but 80 years later, some people are determined to profit from that suffering. It’s as if they’re auctioning off suffering.
Despite being on the receiving end of this suffering, the Polish government failed to consider it. Without a response, memories of the days when millions of people died and were tortured would be auctioned off.
Humans are such creatures. They cannot understand the extent of the suffering of others until they experience it themselves.
