The Conservative Party leader commented on the two resignations at the BBC, which broadcasts at the public expense. Commenting on the resignations of Tim Davie and Deborah Turness, Badenoch stated that the BBC’s management needs reforms and demanded that the new appointee be a suitable candidate for these reforms.
What Kemi Badenoch actually meant was this: The BBC should be selected from qualified individuals, not from those close to the ruling party. These individuals should report news for the people, not for the government. Those paid by the public are obligated to report accurately to the public. A broadcaster that has previously produced false news has, or will continue to produce, similar fake news. Therefore, the BBC must undergo a reform process.
The BBC absolutely must be reformed. Highly paid individuals, channels that are not watched, programme producers and presenters who have been in the news with sex scandals. The BBC absolutely needs to undergo an ethical process and be held accountable to the public. Those who tarnish the channel’s reputation cannot save themselves by resigning.
