According to newspaper reports, new members of the Laborarians are allegedly discussing a future coup to oust Sir Keir Starmer, citing concerns about the party’s poll numbers and potential income tax increases in parliament.
Could MPs stage a coup? Starmer has cleverly foiled previous coup attempts. Unable to withstand pressure from MPs, particularly regarding the cut in benefits, Starmer and his Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, backed down. They may face a similar problem with tax increases.
Does Starmer deserve a coup? The party hasn’t had a single tangible success since coming to power. The economy is abysmal, food and energy prices are constantly rising. Big business is withdrawing its money from the UK. It’s reported that global income coming to the UK has decreased by 35 percent. On top of all this, if new taxes are introduced, the country is likely to face an even worse economic crisis. Chancellor Reeves’ stamp duty hikes have been ineffective. So have other increases!
The country’s economic recovery is unlikely to come until new elections, and ReformUK and Nigel Farage are inching closer to power.
