It’s becoming increasingly easy to understand why Prime Minister Starmer hasn’t resigned and remains at the head of the party after the historic defeat. In fact, looking at the current situation, it’s inevitable to sympathize with him. Look at the names emerging as potential prime ministerial candidates: Ves Streeting, Angela Rayner, Andy Burnham.
If we exclude Andy Burnham, we could even say Starmer is the best of a bad lot. Health Minister Streeting is not capable of leadership. The first major sign of this was her seeking permission from Starmer to run for leadership. She hasn’t even had any tangible success in the Health Ministry.
As for Angela Rayner, she just made a deal to pay the Stamp Duty tax she tried to evade. This lady, who is running for leadership, seems to have realized that she will be able to stop tax evasion, so she’s drawn up a payment plan in installments. She knowingly evaded taxes once, and while millions of people are paying millions of pounds due to the increased Stamp Duty,
She blamed everything on her advisor and made us all believe she was innocent. One of the last names that would be considered a leader… Conclusion: Looking at the people whose names are mentioned as leaders, saying ‘Starmer should stay in office’ is the smartest approach. He’s the best of the worst.
